Aeroseal is a great choice for improving the efficiency of a building’s HVAC system by plugging up potential air leaks. It can be used on both new construction and existing facilities. Aeroseal is a long-lasting solution for air leaks. Accelerated testing done at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory showed that Aeroseal shows no sign of deterioration over the course of 40 years. In this article, we will cover some important information about Aeroseal, how it works, how long it lasts, and its other benefits. If you are interested in learning if Aeroseal is right for your building in New Hampshire, Southern Maine, or the Massachusetts North Shore area, please give our team a call.
What Is Aeroseal?
Aeroseal is a form of air barrier sealing that works by distributing a polymer throughout a building. Aeroseal is applied by creating high air pressure inside the rooms. The air pressure naturally equalizes by escaping through any air leaks. For example, creases, joints, and cracks in a building’s ductwork are often common areas for air leaks. There are strategically placed Aeroseal equipment throughout the building that spray Aeroseal particles into the air. As they are carried by the air towards the air leaks, they gather at the leak points and close the holes. Once a room is able to maintain a pressurized environment, then we know that the Aeroseal has effectively decreased the air leaks, which leads to greater efficiency for a building’s HVAC system.
How Long Does Aeroseal Application Last?
Aeroseal contractors provide a ten-year warranty, but that is not the same as the lifespan of Aeroseal. Testing has shown that Aeroseal can last over 40 years. It is a highly durable material that can protect a building for decades. It is highly recommended for new construction, especially to block any potential leaks that were created during the construction process.
Does Aeroseal Seal All Leaks?
Aeroseal can seal leaks as large as five-eighths of an inch. This covers most of the air leaks that are found in modern-day buildings and homes. According to the United States Department of Energy, small holes are the largest reason for duct leakage. Aeroseal is an effective solution for sealing most duct leaks; however, your contractor may need to recommend other services in situations where there are larger holes or issues with your duct system.
