Blown in Insulation

The Owen's Corning Logo
The Green Fiber Logo

In the construction and remodeling world blown in insulation has become a gold standard for contractors and homeowners.  It is non toxic, has seamless coverage to ensure a proper insulation factor throughout the home, it can be installed quickly and easily in both new construction and retrofit situations.  The energy savings versus overall cost is second to non in the industry while adding additional value to your home.  There are three types of blown in insulation each with there own special purpose and advantages.

Cellulose Insulation

The most popular blown in insulation is cellulose.  It is eco friendly mainly mad from recycled materials treated with fire retardant. It's dense composition make it great for filling in the cracks and eves in a home making it great in the retrofit application.  It is the most budget friendly option out of the three.  Used mainly in attics due to settling in walls can reduce the R value over time and is to be used in dry areas.

Fiberglass

Fiberglass the most commonly know insulation is made from fine strands of glass woven into a mat.  It is a durable mold resistant and fire retardant option that offers a consistent R valve and can be installed both in walls and attic during new construction and retrofit applications.  This is the most versatile application and comes in slightly more expensive than cellulose.

Rockwool

Rockwool is made from basalt rock and slag and provides both insulation and soundproofing.  It has a fire resistance rating of 2150°F, making it one of the most fire-resistant insulations available.  It has amazing sound damping qualities and doesn't retain water reducing mold growth.  Rockwool is generally the most expensive option of the three.
